El Challaco

Deriving its name from the ancient Andean ritual of offering “challa,” or payment, to the “World Mother” and fertility goddess Pachamama – is a chicha (fermented maize beverage) brewed using purple corn and passionfruit. Chicha is typically spilled onto the floor as a tribute, precluding the ceremony of the “Challaco,” which culminates in ritual feasting and additional offerings being made to Pachamama as payment to the Earth, typically near a river or stream. El Challaco is deep plum-colored with a refreshingly sweet, fruity, earthy-corn complexity and a slight funk.
